Medication for an Effective Weight Loss Program

Physician Prescribed Medication for Effective Weight Management and Improved Metabolic Health

Weight loss medications are prescribed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to target chronic weight management in adults with a body mass index (BMI) outside the healthy range. By mimicking incretin hormones, these drugs help regulate appetite and caloric intake, making it easier for individuals to achieve and maintain weight loss. Additionally, they can significantly improve metabolic health, reducing the risk of weight-related conditions like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for those struggling with obesity.

Frequently Asked Questions

You will come to our office once monthly for weigh-ins, progress and goal discussions, nutritional counseling, and pick up of one month of supplies including prefilled syringes that must remain refrigerated at home.

Clean an area of skin in your abdominal area prior to giving yourself the injection. Remove the cap and insert the small needle to the hilt, and then inject the medication at any rate you choose. Bleeding and bruising is very rare. Discard your used syringe in a hard plastic storage container such as a laundry soap container, or purchase a small sharps container at your local drug store. This container can be discarded in your regular trash at the end of your therapy. This can be daunting, but we educate in our office on your first day and most people find the process very easy and painless!

There are two things each patient should do to ensure successful weight loss and eventual ability to lower dosing: high protein intake and resistance training. Because muscle sets your metabolism rate, you must maintain your muscle during weight loss. This requires 100 grams of protein daily for our typical patient and resistance training (weights or bands) three times weekly. Not following these instructions makes it difficult to wean from the medication when you have attained your goal weight.
