Frequently Asked Questions
While IV Ketamine infusion therapy is not currently covered by insurance, we can provide itemized superbills for you to submit to your private insurance carriers for partial reimbursement for consideration of out-of-network partial reimbursement for other associated services such as monitoring and IV placement. We are unable to provide superbills for submission to Medicare and Medicaid.
Although you do not need a referral to be seen in our practice, we encourage and find best results when we work closely with your treatment team. If you are looking for a therapist, we will help.
Most patients describe feeling surreal, strange, or drowsy, but can always talk and are not sedated. Some patients prefer silence or music, and most would prefer to be alone rather than accompanied by a friend. Your experience will be very personal and unique to you, and we are here to accommodate the best experience for you.
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.
- You may bring one friend or family member, but this is not required.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing so we can access your arms for monitoring and IV placement.
- You may bring a blanket or pillow if desired.
- Please eat only lightly the day of your infusion and abstain from eating four hours prior to arrival and drinking one hour prior to arrival.
- Please bring your headphones and a soothing playlist if desired.
- You will require a ride home and may not drive for the rest of the day.
Ketamine can increase your blood pressure during the infusion, but you will be monitored by the physician during your entire procedure and will be treated if needed. You may experience nausea or a mild headache, but we have medications to treat these symptoms if needed. After the infusion, you may feel mild dizziness, poor coordination or blurred vision which resolve within one hour.
Ketamine, used in these protocols, is administered at very low doses which do not lead to addiction. Higher dose and abusive use, like other anesthetics, can lead to addiction.
